Rockfest 2014

Oh, yeah, my first metal festival is over some weeks now. Well, I always avoided big festivals with only metal music. I love metal music, but maybe it is a prejudice, but as a female on a metal festival it is not like funny as a male. ;) I need clean toilets. Yes, I'm a princess in that way. I thought a small festival won't be that bad and I got the tickets as a anniversary gift, so I went on the Rockfest in Herford. The line-up sounded interesting, but as it was coldest weekend in summer and the weather forecast said it will rain most of the time, we decided to go there later. But this later became much later as we drove into a 8 km traffic jam. Argh!
So we arrived when Caliban was already playing. I liked them. It was the first time I saw them live.

The next band was Life of Agony. Hehe, when I got to know that they are playing there, I was like "They still exist?" Guess everyone thought that in that moment. So I wondered how they'll be. And they played all good songs. But I was standing there, always thinking, if that's really Keith Caputo. I thought it was a woman. But Volker told me, yes, it is Keith. Back home I found out, that he became a female "Mina Caputo". So both of us were right. But I liked the show, even if I thought that many didn't like their show.

Then there was Airbourne playing. I've never heard that band. My first thought, they sound a little bit like AC/DC. In that time we were looking for some food. I was surprised to see vegan food as well (hehe, metalheads are not vegan in my mind, but then I remember all the hardcore fans ;) ).

After Airbourne there were Amon Amarth. It was also the first time that I saw them. And so far I only listened to some of there songs and not really intensely. I need to give them a try now. ;) I liked their show.

While Machine Head were building up their stage, it started to rain heavily. You can see us. ;)

And then there was Machine Head. One of my fave bands. It took me 15 years to see them for the first time (they only went on tour in winter or when I was pregnant in 7+ months), so I was veeeery excited to see them for the first time. And I liked the show so much. I couldn't tell you anymore, which songs they played, but I thought it was just too short (70 min or a bit more). I really need to see a normal concert of them one day. :)

All in all, it was a really nice festival, even if the toilets weren't perfect. We met some old friends and just had fun enjoying the bands.

Castlefest 2014

A few months ago a new penpal of me, told me, that there is a folk/medieval festival in the Netherlands which is worth to visit. Normally we wanted to make our holiday in the Harz this year, but we changed our plans then. We wanted to go to this festival. :) And it was lovely. Okay, it is much bigger than the Festival Mediaval, but it also had other things to offer. We got know some more new bands like Cesair, Trolska Polska or Amma. And we've seen old bands like Faun, Omnia and Corvus Corax. And of course we saw bands, which we knew before, but never seen before like Folk Noir, Asynje or Zirp. :) I was happy that we had three day tickets as the row in front of the ticket sale was veeeery long (esp. on Sunday). First we thought that the festival was very expensive in comparison to the Festival Mediaval. The food was very expensive (the cheapest was 3 € for a sweet pancake), but you got water for free and of course the tickets were cheaper. So maybe we paid the same as for the other festival. ;)
We had so much luck with the weather on all three days. Hehe, first we expected to go more to a medieval festival, but we looked nearly normal in our medieval clothes. The costumes were very interesting. It was like a go and see. ;)
I also liked to see all those different stalls. You could buy everything for Larp, medieval and wow, so many boards games (sadly those were in Dutch or English). But for our hobbies there was much to find. It was good that we didn't have so much money with us. ;) We only bought some fudge, CDs and a medieval belt for Fynn.

Result of these two festivals we've visited: Our son likes the Castlefest, my husband likes the Festival Mediaval and I'm not sure, I like both a lot. :)

Festival Mediaval 2013 - Nordic Special

This last weekend we've been to Selb to the Mediaval Festival..This year they had a "Nordic" special, so many great bands played those days.
Omnia
First we saw Omnia. It was our first concert of them. They often played at placed nearby, but we always thought, "we'll see them again this year" but then we didn't go there. And last year we had to drive home just before their concert. So this was our first concert. It was really great. They played some songs that we didn't know (we don't have all cds). But it was a great atmosphere. :D

Faun

The second band was Faun. As you might have heard I wasn't happy about their new cd (which sounds like german folk-pop). But I always wanted to give them a chance. The acoustic concert in April was already great, but I haven't heard a normal concert since they published their cd. So it was afraid they could play many new songs on their concert. But the total opposite happened. They only played one song of the new cd and the others were so great, many of my fave songs "Rhiannon", "Iyansa" and the great "Wind & Geige" which I haven't heard for a while in their concerts. And not to forget "Iduna" which I've never heard on a concert before. For me it was the best concert ever. Was it because of my expactations? I don't know..

Kauna
The next day we saw Oliver Satyr with the new project "Kauna". Sadly there was no cd existing otherwise I would have bought it. They played swedish/nordic folk. :D

Dandelion Wine
Dandelion Wine
Then we saw Dandelion Wine, a band from Australia. Hm, the music is hard to decribe. It was kind of medieval with electro. It was a bit strange, but at the end I liked it and was a bit sad that I didn't buy a cd. The funny was the female member, before the show you could vote for some weeks, which hair colour she should have at the concert. You can see the result.

Euzen
The singer of Euzen and Omnia

After that show we saw Euzen. Well, this year we liked many bands. Euzen are from Denmark and they also made a great concert. It sounds a bit like Björk in my ears. ;) Normally I don't like that kind of music, but this band I can recommand. We've also bought the cd, but the concert was much better, esp. the beats and atmosphere (sadly they didn't play in the night, the concert would have been even more better).

Poeta Magica with Saga
In the evening the first band we saw was "Poeta Magica". They have changed so much since we last saw them (in 2003). They made music to the islandic saga "Edda". The ensemble exist of 9 people (including a narrator). First I thought it was a bit for a concert with chairs. But after this thought it completely changed and we saw a mix of a medieval/rock-legend. :D I wish there would be a dvd on this concert.

Garmarna
Emma Härdelin
The best concert of the whole weekend was in front of us. -GARMARNA- I guess I've never been that curious before of a concert. The soundcheck was already great (they played one complete song) and yeah, the concert. I cannot tell it. The band haven't played a concert for around 12 years in Germany and it was the only one for past and future. They played songs like "Herr Mannelig", "Vänner och frände", "Herr Holger" and many more great songs. They also played a "new" song. Well, it wasn't new as it was written many years ago for a new cd, but it was new to the fans. And I was surprised that the other band members (I only knew Emma Härdelin from a Triakel concert before) were so much "rocking". ;) It was a big fun to see them perform on the stage. I really hope they'll make a new cd and more concerts in the future. I will never forget this concert. :D

Strömkarlen
The last day we saw some more bands like Cara, little of BerlinskiBeat (didn't know that those are the members of Corvus Corax),..
And we saw "Strömkarlen", who also played folk music from the North. They were calmer than the other bands that played that weekend, but still very nice.

Valravn
Valravn
And in the evening our last band of the festival were "Valravn". It was their last concert and they play pagan folk with electronic beats. It was something else than I had expected here, too. But some music was nice, so I bought one of their cds as well. ;)

I can say that I liked this festival even more than the one last year (which is because of the wonderful concerts of Faun and Garmarna). I saw many interesting bands and so many different people. This year it wasn't so authentic like the last year. It was a mix of hippies, medieval, normal and fantasy people. ;) The food smelled nice, unfortunately I couldn't eat a lot of it because of my gall bladder. But this bad topic will be hopefully over as I'll get a surgery next week. :D
The first time Volker told me to buy something.. wooden rubberstamps.. :D

A weekend back in medieval times

This last weekend we were in Selb/Bavaria on a medieval festival. It was my first festival ever. I got the tickets for our 11th anniversary of Volker & me. :D We drove there with Fynn and we slept in the camper.
Triakel
On Friday we wanted to see Triakel. They are from Sweden. Emma, the singer, is from the band Garmarna and we are listening to both bands for a long time. So it was great to see them for the first time on this festival. :) We (Fynn and me) made a pic with the band. :) Fynn is still very proud of it.

Faun

There were a lot of bands playing on the weekend, like Faun, Stellamara, Schandmaul, Spiritual Season, Schelmish,... We saw all of our fave bands and found also some new bands, like Spiritual Season. They make great music. :) I liked to see Pampatut who were really funny. And it was also funny to see some guys playing "Kohlball". ;)
It was nice to see some new stalls on the festival, not always the same that we see here in the North. :) We also bought a nice wooden "Chalice-fountain".

Kohlball
Oh, and the food was great. I forgot to make a pic of some food, but everything was delicious: Schupfnudeln with mushrooms, Falaffel, hamp flatbread and a  lot more. And I drank some cherry beer. :)
Sadly we had to drive home after the Schelmish concert on Sunday, so we couldn't see Omnia. :( That concert I wanted to see so much, but my son had to go back to school on Monday, so we drove home.

After this weekend we have a lot of plans for our own medieval camp. We want to make furnitures, a tent and everything else we need. ;) If anybody is interested in joining us with that, you are welcome. :) We always look for people to start a camp with..
